Sundbyberg is home, but sometimes a day trip just far enough away is exactly what a day needs: Close enough to reach without much planning, far enough to feel like a small escape. Mariefred fit that perfectly.
We went with my step-daughter and her daughter, who is at that wonderful age where walking on her own is still a novelty and everything in the world demands closer inspection. Somewhere between the platform and the old steam train waiting on the tracks, I found myself thinking of childhood toy trainsets, the kind you'd set up on the living room floor and imagine into something much bigger than it was.
That's what this image is, really: A grown-up version of that same small wonder, standing right in front of me.
