We had hiked to a fortress at the edge of a cliff on Bornholm. Standing at the edge of the fortress and looking down, all the allure of being at the top and safe behind a thick wall faded away as I looked at the possibility of all that laid at the bottom of the cliff.
Being there, I wondered how many soldiers had stood guard on this very wall, long ago, and had that very same thought.
